* GAC's Q&A- 2/28/07
Q: How are things going in Canada with Emerson Drive?
(Danielle, Hickory, NC)
A: Danielle, even though the band, Emerson Drive, moved to Nashville permanently a few years back and are currently working on becoming U.S. citizens, they have not cut their Canadian roots. They continue to win Canadian music awards and tour more in Canada than many other former Canadians do. Lead singer, Brad Mates told me recently, "Instead of slipping into Canada for a half dozen dates and then out, we make runs of 30 cities or more." The cool thing for band is, when they become U.S. Citizens they won't lose their Canadian citizenship since that country allows dual citizenship.
* GAC's Q&A- 2/14/07
Q: I have met the guys of Emerson Drive and they are great! Their music is fantastic and they contribute to so many great causes! Why don't they get the recognition they deserve?
(Kelly, Silver Gate, MT)
A: Well Kelly, Emerson Drive may yet get their due below the border. This Canadian-bred band is very popular north of the border in their homeland. But they have yet to break it big in the USA. They almost did in 2001 and 2002 when they scored back-to-back Top 5 hits with "I Should Be Sleeping," and "Fall Into Me." But even though that showed they were great on stage while opening for Shania Twain, they weren't able to string together any more big hits in the U.S. Buoyed by their continued success in Canada, Emerson Drive are poised to release new music below the border and try once again to establish a career in the U.S. with their new album, Countrified. Check into all things Emerson Drive at emersondrive.com.
* Canada's Juno Awards Happen On April 1

It is already at #15 on Mediabase in Canada and in the Top 40 in the United States. “We are having fun traveling throughout Canada and seeing all of our fans here. They are amazing and they have shown incredible support to us and our music. We appreciate them very much,” says Brad Mates, lead vocalist for the group. Emerson Drive’s exciting live show is now carrying full production with sound and lights and fans can experience the incredible musicianship of this hot group. * Emerson Drive Member Injured
September 15, 2006--Emerson Drive keyboardist Dale Wallace, who recently won a spot in the 2006 CCMA All Star Band, was recently injured while enjoying some much needed time off with fellow band members. The guys were spending some time four-wheeling when Dale rolled his vehicle, just a few feet in front of Emerson Drive’s Danick Dupelle. "It was dark and the grass had gotten really wet," says Dale. "It’s really hard to play and sing right now but I’m just thankful I didn’t mangle my hands!"
Wallace suffered from two fractured ribs, but as always for these guys, the show must go on. They perform tonight in Charlottetown, PEI in Canada and then head to Las Vegas for KWNR’s Double Down Throwdown on Saturday at the Orleans Arena. Upcoming stops for the band include: Ventura, CA, Riverside, CA, Greenville, SC, Savannah, GA and more, to promote Countrified, their debut release from Midas Records, in stores September 19.

* Emerson Drive No Boy Band
August 21, 2006--Emerson Drive may sing about being a good man, but some critics in the past have called them a boy band. X Radio wondered if the guys took offense at that title. "It's been used a lot in the past," says lead singer Brad Mates. "But it's funny because our live shows [have] won a lot of people over who had a first impression about the group in the past. And then they come and see the show and they just kinda come back up to you and say, 'I had no idea. I had no idea.' So they're thankful that they got to see our live show and that's something that we'll continue to do down the road--always concentrate on being a live act."

* EMERSON DRIVE ON THE TOP 20
July 21, 2006 - Brad Mates is happy that he and the guys of EMERSON DRIVE have been given another chance to have some new music played on the radio with their song “A Good Man.” Brad hopes that people listening to the song will actually hear what it has to say: “It’s got a great message in the song. It’s basically just about anyone in life that, you know what do you want to be remembered by when you’re laid down to rest? A father, a brother, a neighbor and a friend – he was a good man. And I think this, you know, reaches out to anyone young, old… I know that when I pass on if my friends, or my children are talking about me years after, all the positive things, that’s what you want to be remembered by. You want to do whatever you can. Be positive while you’re here and this song, you know, has it all in it.” We were lucky enough to catch up with the boys at the Calgary Stampede and they talked about this song and all sorts of other stuff so be sure to tune into the Chevy Top 20 all weekend long to see the guys in action!
* EMERSON'S DRIVING THE MESSAGE HOME
July 13, 2006 - The boys of EMERSON DRIVE are thrilled to see their latest hit, A Good Man, playing on the airwaves. But lead singer BRAD MATES hopes people out there will listen to the song and really hear the meaning behind it. As he says to countrykickers.com, the tune is geared to anyone in life who wonders how they will be remembered after they are laid to rest. Mates reflects, "I think this reaches out to anyone young, old ... I know that when I pass on if my friends, or my children are talking about me years after, all the positive things, that's what you want to be remembered by." And what does the message of the song suggest for people and their time on earth? Mates says, "You want to do whatever you can. Be positive while you're here." A Good Man is obviously striking a chord with music lovers as the song has hit #2 on CMT's Chevy Top 20. Tune in this weekend to see where it lands next!

In the set-closing cover of "Devil Went Down to Georgia," the band threw in some Led Zeppelin licks and the crowd went wild.
In fact, Emerson Drive ("Fall Into Me") often samples songs, which draws a strong reaction each time, lead singer Brad Mates said.
"They say, 'You're teasing us! Play the whole song!' "

* MEDIA ALERT: Emerson Drive Coming on Strong
Nashville, TN – Emerson Drive’s newest single A Good Man is breaking records with “the battle of the single” on country radio stations across the country. The “Bunkhouse Brawl,” on station KIIM-FM in Tucson, Arizona, retired the song as champ after 5 nights in a row of winning the song battle. The nationally syndicated radio program After Midnite with Blair Garner played the song and it was “picked” at 93% by listeners.
The members of Emerson Drive don’t just know their stuff when it comes to music. They gave CMT Insider some workout tips for their segment called “Body Talk.” The band went to their favorite Nashville fitness center, Nashville Athletic Center, where they shared their workout secrets with the folks at CMT. At one point during the taping, lead singer Brad Mates was showing off his bench pressing technique when a little mishap occurred. He’s okay, but you’ll really want to see the show to find out what happened!
CMT Insider airs on CMT on Saturday March 11th 1:30pm ET/PT.
* Emerson Drive Hits Racing Circuit
Performing at Music City Motorplex
Nashville, TN – Midas Records Nashville recording artists Emerson Drive will perform a pre-race concert as part of the festivities for the ASA Challenge Series Spring Clash 200 on March 18 at Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN.
Emerson Drive joins TDS as a sponsor for Trackside Charities and ASA veteran driver, Chad Wood. In addition to performing at the ASA Challenge Series opener, Emerson Drive will be entertaining ASA racing fans at future charitable events in Kalamazoo, Mich.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Odessa, Mo. and another race to be determined.
“We are honored to be a part of the great work being done by Trackside Charities. We are also racing fans and it’s going to be fun being involved in the ASA races,” says Brad Mates, Emerson Drive’s lead singer.
“We’re thrilled to have such talented musicians join in the charitable cause,” said TDS Corporate Communications Manager DeAnne Boegli. “Their ability to bring in crowds translates to more money for charity and adds yet another exciting element to this racing sponsorship.”
So what does driver Chad Wood think about his new sponsor and this Music & Motor Sports theme? “We’ll have some fun this summer,” said Wood. “Emerson Drive played at a Trackside Charities’ event last fall and rocked the place, so I’d like to say thanks to the racetrack promoters and the Varney’s for allowing us to provide our great racing fans this special treat.”
Trackside Charities is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting existing children's charities with their fund raising efforts. According to Trackside Charities' Director Gregg Burmeister, this will be a banner year. “Emerson Drive played at one of our Music and Motorsports charitable events last fall and put on an incredible show." Burmeister went on to say, “Their passion, energy and willingness to interact with the fans are exactly what we were looking for. I’m just ecstatic that these talented artists have agreed to help our cause.”
Before heading out to the race track on Saturday, Emerson Drive makes an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry on Friday evening, March 17th where they will perform their new single “A Good Man.” Their full length CD is due out in June.

* 1,000+ Fans Storm Radio Station To See Emerson Drive
WQMX-FM in Akron, OH held a listener appreciation party with hot country group Emerson Drive. The station sent out an email to invite members of their Country Club to visit the station for a performance from Emerson Drive and a chance to meet the band. The result of that email? Over 1,200 Emerson Drive fans were lined up for 2 blocks around the radio station, waiting to get in to see the band in a space that holds only 110 people.
The band’s response? Stay and play! The guys of Emerson Drive were not about to turn away eager fans, so they performed additional sets so everyone would get the chance to see a show.
After their 5th set, which ended just after 10:00pm, then signed autographs before departing.
Because the crowd was so large Emerson Drive was happy to oblige and agreed to play for as long as there were people waiting in line. Program Director, Kevin Mason and his employees went down the line asking people if they minded waiting for the next show and warned them that they may be waiting hours. The reply from folks was, “As long as we get to see Emerson Drive.”
“This turnout was amazing! We’ve done our Country Club listener appreciation concerts here at the station in the past and we always have a great attendance around 300, but this was unprecedented,” commented Mason.

George Canyon, the runner-up to Brad Cotter during last year's Nashville Star competition, has lined up a series of tour dates in his native Canada. Fellow north-of-the-border country stars Aaron Lines, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Emerson Drive will accompany George on his brief run through Ontario in May; during the summer, George will make several stops on the festival circuit.
* Look! It's Star Jones!
-- Emerson Drive spent some time at the end of February in Florida, entertaining fans at Sea World in Orlando, and basking in the sunshine.
In between performing and getting sprayed by Shamu, the group spent a couple of days in the parks at Sea World and Epcot. Their hotel was in walking distance of Sea World.
It wasn't all fun and games. A generator on the bus blew, causing the bus to spew and smoke. That problem was fixed, and as the band headed back to Canada, they awoke the next morning to yet another blown generator -- and NO heat in ZERO degree weather.
Ain't no bidness like show bidness.

No official word on a new label, as of yet, but Emerson Drive is doing a new song in concert "Lucky Man" and there are rumors that the guys will have new songs in their concert setlist soon.
* Goodbye DreamWorks Nashville
Emerson Drive is no longer with DreamWorks Records, Nashville and is currently touring and trying to find a new record label. Brad has this to say about the split:
"The last couple of weeks have been interesting to say the least......as most of you know by now, Dreamworks and ED have parted ways. There is no hard feeling on either side, it was a move that had to be made! Just to let everyone know......the band is as strong as ever and will contiinue to make music, play dates, and find a new record company to call home! Thanks for all of your support in the last 2 weeks and we will make sure that you are the first to know about anything new that is happening!!"

* Shania Quotes on Emerson Drive
Shania Twain on Emerson Drive as an opening act: I wanted somebody who was going to suit the stage because it's in a round and it's a little bit complicated to have a full band set up, so they were ideal that way. They're just great. They sing like birds, and they're just a wonderful group. They're a really, really talented bunch of guys, and really nice.
Shania Twain on Emerson Driving helping her speak French: They speak French, which was quite a surprise. I don't remember where we were, but as I was leaving I heard these people speaking French. I just cut in and was like "Hey!" and started speaking with them to practice a little bit in real life, and it was Emerson Drive. Of course, that was when I realized that I had something in common with them. I'm Canadian, but I'm not French-Canadian and I always sort of regretted not learning a second language coming from a country that has more than one language. So I decided to learn it as an adult. It's been kind of fun. So yeah, we trade off the old French phrase on the road.
* EMERSON DRIVE SAYS GOODBYE TO SHANIA AND GOOD EATIN'
Emerson Drive will head out on their own tour after finishing their great run as the opening act for Shania Twain this Saturday. While it will be great to have their own gigs, they're going to miss the world class food they had on the Twain tour.
"Well she had her own catering traveling with the whole crew and they were from New Zealand and Australia, and the food was just unbelievable," Danick tells us.
"And one day I said, 'I'm going to be careful about what I eat,' because you eat so well, it's good food, and when there's good food like that and good dessert too, and that's the problem my diet just went down the drain."
* Site Updates - 7/09/04
I apologize for not updating sooner. I moved and re-moved and moved some more and haven't had time to do much of anything. I have been working on a new site for my E-drive photos and those will be added to this site soon. I have a lot of Emerson Drive photos (my own and friends') to add and it takes a while to add them, so please bear with me. Thanks!

* Emerson Drive Heat Up the Summer With Opry Visit, New Album
Few artists pass up an opportunity to play the Grand Ole Opry, and Emerson Drive are no exception. Detouring through Nashville after playing to the Greenville, SC crowd, Brad, Danick, Mike, David, Dale and Patrick made an appearance in the new Opry store prior to their Opry performance on Saturday. Fans stood in line to meet and greet the band right up until show time, forcing store employees to cut the line short so the band could get ready to hit the stage. Immediately following the show, they boarded their home on wheels and headed to Arlington, TX , where they celebrated the 4th of July with fans at Cowboys Red River.

* Emerson Drive on The Grand Ole Opry
Their stint out on the road with Shania Twain may be nearing an end, but Emerson Drive are by no means taking a break from the road. Between a gig with Twain in Greenville, SC and their own Independence Day show at Cowboy's in Dallas, TX, the band is heading back to Nashville for an in-store visit and a performance on the Grand Ole Opry on July 3rd. The group just released their second album, What If.
* Emerson Drive 'Gets Real' With Dr. Phil
The camera crews from Dr. Phil were in Nashville Friday night filming a segment for the popular talk show with Emerson Drive. The guys of Emerson Drive were performing as part of the new Tin Roof Concert Series and during their performance of "November," their next single, they called up Thomas, who appeared on the Dr. Phil show after losing 100 pounds. Last month on the show Lee Ann Womack surprised Thomas with a demo deal on UMG Nashville. The performance with Emerson Drive was another dream-come-true for the lifelong musician.
* Dr. Phil Hooks-Up Thomas With MCA Nashville
Dr Phil has gotten his client, Thomas Harris, who lost 100 pounds in just nine months and loves Country music, a deal with MCA Nashville.
The label gave Thomas a development deal in which MCA Nashville will pay for Thomas to record a few songs, which he will perform in Nashville tomorrow, Friday (6/25).
One of Thomas's favorite groups is Emerson Drive. He will be singing backing vocals when the they perform at the new outdoor concert series Backstage at Tin Roof. Dr. Phil's TV cameras will be there to video Thomas' debut. The Big 98/WSIX/Nashville gets into the act because they have a new series from the Tin Roof bar/Nashville. The show will consist of Emerson Drive (with Thomas) and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.
* Emerson Drive Looks Ahead To November
Emerson Drive wrapped up shooting the video for their upcoming single November on Wednesday, but the finished product is not what it seems. Shot in Vancouver, the temperature should have been 48, but it was actually 84, so it took special effects to turn the hot and sunny day into a miserable winter one.
CMT Insider catches up with the guys at their photo shoot for their upcoming album, WHAT IF, set for release on June 29th. The episode airs on June 25th at 11:30 p.m. ET.
* Emerson Drive Takes Music City
Emerson Drive appears Friday in Nashville in a rare appearance at The Tin Roof. The popular Nashville club is kicking off their summer concert series with the Canadian boys on June 25th. Doors open at 6 p.m. Emerson Drive continues on tour with Shania Twain through July.
* SHANIA PRAISED BY EMERSON DRIVE
Shania Twain took fellow countrymen, Emerson Drive, on her recent world tour, and besides learning a ton about how a mega tour is put together and works, the band says they were just blown away by how nice Shania and her gang are to an opening act like them.
"First of all just being around Shania Twain and her whole crew is just been fantastic," says Brad Manes. "And what's striking is just the quality of people with her and how great, down-to-earth people they are. From the musicians in her band, to the techs around the stage they make us feel a part of the show and not just the opening act.
Many times the guys with would tell us, 'Hey you guys this is your show too, we're all a part of this together,' so we feel part of that big family that whole Shania Twain entourage and it's just great."
* RICHARD MARX GLAD TO PRODUCE A COMMITTED BAND LIKE EMERSON DRIVE
Pop/rock singer/songwriting star, Richard Marx, produced Emerson Drive's terrific new album WHAT IF. And, he says he wanted to work with them after seeing their growth and dedication to their music.
"What I saw when I first met them a couple of years ago, I saw some bare-bones talent that was exceptional," Marx tells us.
"But now, since working with them extensively I see growth and commitment. I mean these are guys that lost half their band between their first and second albums, but the remaining 6 are a better band by far, a more cohesive unit and they have a willingness to do what it takes, not to be stars, but to make great records and have a successful career. These are six guys from Canada that want to be known as the best band in their format."
Marx says the band recorded the majority of the new album in his studio just outside of Chicago.
* Hot November Winds
-- Emerson Drive wrapped up shooting the video for their upcoming single, "November," on Wednesday, in beautiful Vancouver BC.
With a temperature of 84 degrees, the group should have been singing about a love lost in July instead of November. It took special effects to turn the hot and sunny day into a miserable winter one.
And though it may seem like all of the band members have a nasty winter cold, it's actually hay fever from all of the dust on the set.
Emerson Drive's album, What if, will be in Stores June 29.

* CANADA SAYS "BIENVENU" HOME TO EMERSON DRIVE
If you're going back home it's nice to get a welcome from your family and friends. But how many of you have had 22,000 such folks welcome you back home? After opening their summer tour with Shania Twain in the United States, the 6 guys of Emerson Drive returned to their homeland of Canada, where they were welcomed with open arms and packed seats (22,000 in the Bell Centre) in Montreal. This show was the first of four scheduled tour stops in Canada.
Additional stops in Canada included the Pepsi Center in Quebec City and the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario. The tour returns to the United States tomorrow with a stop in Charleston, WV.
Upcoming U.S. dates include Ft. Wayne, IN; Grand Rapids, MI; Louisville, KY; and Columbus, OH.
* Mark's Twain
An August airdate on GAC is expected for a tribute to Hank Williams that will feature performances from Mark Chesnutt, Pam Tillis and others. In other news, Mark, Emerson Drive, Ricochet and Aaron Tippin are among the artists lined up to play HomefrontAid, a Sept. 3-5 event in Hamburg, N.Y., that will raise money for struggling families of reservists.
* COUNTRY STARS TEAM UP FOR "HOMEFRONTAID 2004"
A very special concert is being planned for Labor Day weekend in Buffalo, New York the show will feature a number of country stars performing for some of very special people. "HomefrontAid 2004" will raise money for families of military reservists who were called to active duty, and Harrison Woolworth, the event's chairman, says the event is expected to draw between 50,000 and 100,000 people and raise $7 million to $8 million. And with a bill that includes Mark Chestnutt, Emerson Drive, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Collin Raye, Ricochet, Doug Stone, Aaron Tippin and Daryl Worley, it's easy to see why. Proceeds from the event will be distributed by the Homefront Aid Foundation to families who are having trouble meeting expenses because of the difference between reservists' military and civilian salaries. Money also will be used to pay education expenses for the children of soldiers killed in the war. The concert will take place at The Fairgrounds in Hamburg, a site in suburban Buffalo that is roughly the size of three football fields. Concertgoers will be invited to pitch their tents or park their RVs. To get more information on the show, including tickets, log on to HomefrontAid.com.
* Help -- I'm a snack food!
-- This story sounds like the answer to one of those infamous Barbara Walters questions -- If you could be a Daweetos fwayver, which fwayver would you be?
Beginning next week, 27 music artists will become a Doritos flavor, so to speak. The company will feature artists from UMVD-distributed labels on 180 million bags of its snack foods through the end of the year.
According to Billboard.com, nine acts -- including country's Rascal Flatts and Reba McEntire already have been paired with one of Doritos' nine flavors. For example, look for Reba on bags of toasted corn.
Each artist will be pictured on his or her respective bag -- and album art will appear on the back. The campaign kicks off Tuesday (5/18)
** Webmaster's Note: Emerson Drive is on the back of a Cool Ranch Doritos bag with Rascal Flatts and Joe Nichols.
* Home Court Advantage
-- After opening their summer tour with Shania Twain in the states, Emerson Drive recently returned to their homeland of Canada, performing for close to 22,000 people in the city of Montreal.
Did we mention that Shania was also on the show?
This was the first of four scheduled tour stops in Canada. Additional stops included the Pepsi Center in Quebec City and the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario.
The tour returns to the U.S. tomorrow (5/14) with a stop in Charleston, WV. Upcoming U.S. dates include Ft. Wayne, IN, Grand Rapids, MI, Louisville, KY, and Columbus, OH.
Emerson Drive's new album, What If, lands in stores June 29.
* TWAIN'S FRENCH CONNECTION TO EMERSON DRIVE
Shania Twain continues to practice her French language skills, and that's one of the reasons why Emerson Drive is on her show.
"They speak French, which was a surprise. I don't remember where we were but I was leaving -- on an awards show not too, too long ago -- and as I was leaving I heard these people speaking French. And I'm like Hey! and I just cut in and started speaking with them to practice a little bit and realized that it was Emerson Drive and of course that was when I realized I had something in common with them."
* SHANIA'S "OLD" FRIENDS EMERSON DRIVE GETTING READY
Emerson Drive's second album is due out May 18, so they're looking forward to going back on the road with Shania on April 19th, hoping that exposure will induce people who have seen them along the concert trail to head to the record store to buy Shania's CD and theirs too.
* EMERSON DRIVE AIN'T FOOLIN' WITH THEIR CONCERTS
When it comes to their live shows, Emerson Drive keeps scoring big. In fact, they reportedly had every single member of their record-setting crowd of 3,500+ at a show in Port Orange, Florida out of their seats on April Fools' Day. And that includes the mayor of Port Orange as well as several city dignitaries, who were described as being "on their feet from the first note to the last chord" at the Port Orange Amphitheater. That kind of a reaction might not be too much of a surprise considering that their current single is titled "Last One Standing" and that the song has moved into the #26 slot on "Radio & Records'" Country Top 50 chart this week. The track is also the first offering from the band's new album, "What If?," which is set to arrive in stores June 29th.
* Tubes Leader Co-Writes Emerson Drive Single
Emerson Drive's new single, "Last One Standing," was co-written by Richard Marx and Fee Waybill, former leader of the eccentric rock act, the Tubes. Marx, who had pop music success in the '80s, is Emerson Drive's producer. During the '70s and '80s, the Tubes enjoyed a sizable cult following after recording such songs as "White Punks on Dope." Marx's upcoming album includes a guest appearance from Keith Urban.
